What you find when you look through pictures of those homes, however, isn’t exactly ideal. You see poorly-lit, crooked photos, that were probably taken from a cell phone – these photos don’t exactly leave you with a great feeling. Some even make the house look downright scary. More importantly, these photos probably don’t give you a clear representation of the house and it’s features.

This is a problem we see all too often online, and it’s certainly not limited to the real-estate industry. Perhaps there’s a false stigma that professional product photos are reserved for high-end, mega-corporations. Or maybe some folks truly just don’t know the difference between good and bad photography. Whatever the reason, it’s a problem we’d like to address and remedy as much as possible.

Consider this – as humans, we are primarily visual learners. A well-known study performed in the late 1990’s found that at least 65% of people are visual learners and use what they see to make decisions above their other senses. Apply this to your own life. If you are driving down the road and need to stop for gas, do you stop at the gas station that looks like a scene straight out of a Quentin Tarantino film? Or do you choose the well-lit, nicely painted, high-tech gas station across the street? I’d wager you’d probably choose the latter – even if it meant dishing over a few extra coins.

We almost always associate aesthetic with professionalism. Put another way – we’re more prone to buy something when it is made more visually appealing. Your business customers are no different. They make decisions about the quality of products based not only on the information about the product, but also by the way the product is presented. I doubt this is news to you, but have you actually applied this knowledge to your online presence?

Professional Photography and Content Strategy

When we talk about content strategy at Apparatus, we often use the cake analogy. It goes something like this:

Building a website is like baking a cake. Your site’s content are the ingredients that make up the cake. We want you to bake with quality ingredients and end up with the best cake possible.

Now, apply this theory to your photos. Do the photos on your website and publications represent your products well? Do they make your products, services, and company in general look like a million bucks?

If the answer to any of these questions is no, or if you don’t yet have photos, then you might be missing an opportunity to bring in more business and help your customers see you and your products for what they really are – amazing!

Believe it or not, the cost of professional photography can actually be quite affordable – especially when you consider the potential results!

If professional photography is something you are considering, we’d love to be a part of that conversation. Give us a shout anytime to speak with a marketing consultant about the power of professional photography!
